It's been a minute since I added anything here - sorry! - but I'm happy to tell you that we have been busy behind the scenes, getting through winter, writing and prepping for the arrival of our new additions! More on that in a later post. For today, let's take a look at what's happening on the homestead.
EARLY BIRD PRICING CLOSES APRIL 30, 2022.
Wool Classing workshop with Dr. Lisa Surber, June 11 and 12, 2022. For those of you able to travel to the homestead, this two-day workshop will provide you with all the fibre fundamentals you need as you pursue your goals.
It's going to be an exciting and educational opportunity to get hands-on with a variety of fleece types, ask questions, network with other fibre enthusiasts - from fibre artists to mill owners to shepherds - and, of course, build our community!
"Proactive Permaculture - Setting Your Small Flock Up For Success," July 23, 2022. This interactive, one-day workshop will get into the basics of setting up a small ruminant flock using permaculture as our foundation. PLEASE NOTE - you don't need to have your PDC to participate. Anyone with an interest in small ruminants and regenerative agriculture will get something out of the day. We will be starting with the basics and building from there - this will be very much a hands-on, practical, reality-based, "down and dirty" workshop. We will walk you through our own experience, including -
- assessing your goals and objectives
- what critter is right for you?
- applying the 12 Permaculture Principles to small ruminant flocks
- multi-species grazing
- rotational grazing set-up options
- take your cues from the land
- small ruminant husbandry basics and animal welfare considerations
- the "before you bring them home" checklist
. . . . and more!
Registration for Proactive Permaculture will open on May 1st, 2022 with special early-bird pricing until June 30th, 2022.
Don't forget, if you have workshop questions or suggestions, we would LOVE to hear them! Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll see what we can do.
Keep your eyes on the website for more workshops and other on-farm opportunities! As always, events will be announced on the homestead's social media channels - look for us on Facebook and Instagram.
