Are you curious about what goes on here day-to-day?
Do you like to know what the flerd is up to, what needs to be done over the course of a season or what a year-, a week- or even a day-in-the-life of the homestead looks like?
This is your chance! The Day-to-Day Chore Tracker (D2D) gives you an honest look at what has to be done and when it gets done. Whether it’s for animal welfare purposes, an emerging issue that needs to be managed, prep for public-facing events, a busy season or a slow one, the D2D is here to fill in the blanks and keeps transparency top-of-mind.
Just a look at some of the regular chores that happen here throughout the year.
Amy, our ewe really getting into her hay.
Grocery Day! Bringing feed bags from the truck to the feed room.
Sometimes we have to rely on the expertise of our veterinary partners. Here, my original Border Leicester Claire is undergoing a surgery on her ear.
We go through a fair bit of hay in a year. It has to be taken off the truck and then stored for winter.
Cleaning the sheds is a regular chore here. We spot clean daily and do a bigger clean and re-bed once a week. Every Spring we pull everything out, allow the stalls to dry thoroughly and then re-bed fresh.
It’s a lot of work but I think they all appreciate it.
Getting hands-on with the newly shorn fleeces, we skirt out all the nasty bits.
Lizzie with her brand new babies, Lucy and Luther.
It’s not my favourite chore but it has to be done.
Castration Day isn’t anyone’s best day but it’s essential for non-breeding boys.
